The start of the 2019/20 year has seen Contact Consulting taking on a range of new work. Steve Appleton has recently expanded his role with International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership (IIMHL) and is now the European Lead for the organisation. With his north American counterpart he is leading IIMHL's work on mental health development in cities and urban regions. The States of Jersey have commissioned Contact Consulting to support the development and work of the new Children's Strategic Partnership Board, building on previous and current work related the Children's Plan and the Citizen's Panel following the Jersey Independent Care Inquiry. This work is being conducted jointly with our associate Amy Hobson. Work is now underway on a research project with Mind, examining the impact of social housing allocation policy for those experiencing mental health problems. Steve Appleton, Managing Director of Contact Consulting has been appointed to the Board of the Association of Mental Health Providers (AMHP). The AMHP is the leading representative body for voluntary and community sector mental health organisations in England and Wales. A registered charity, it represents its membership of small, medium and large providers – from locally focused to regional and national organisations with the purpose of providing a professional platform on which the vital work of all its members can be seen and heard. Commenting on his appointment, Steve Appleton said: "I am delighted to have been invited to join the Board of the Association of Mental Health Providers. Contact Consulting has been commissioned to develop a blueprint for the future of mental health services in the Isle of Wight. The work is being undertaken for the Isle of Wight CCG, but involves extensive consultation with a range of local stakeholders in the NHS, local authority and the voluntary sector.
Contact Consulting to develop mental health strategy for NHS Southwark CCG and London Borough of Southwark
We are delighted to confirm that we have been commissioned by NHS Southwark CCG and the London Borough of Southwark to develop a joint mental health and wellbeing strategy. This important assignment comes at an important time for mental health services in London and will focus on a population based approach across the life course. Work on this assignment has now begun and will feature engagement with the public, people who use services as well as professionals, draw upon evidence based practice and be built around the principles of recovery.
Contact Consulting is delighted to confirm that we have been commissioned to support the work of the newly formed West Midlands Mental Health Commission. The Commission, chaired by Norman Lamb MP (former Care Services Minister) will assess the scale of poor mental health and well being across the West Midlands and its cost and impact on public sector services, the economy and communities. It will review national and international research and best practice to establish what works best in addressing the impact that poor mental health and wellbeing has on public services, the economy and local communities. It will establish the relative costs and benefits of the application of this evidence to the West Midland and identify and consider the outcomes from, work currently under way and/ or being piloted in the West Midlands to improve mental health and wellbeing, including but not limited to Headstart and the NHS Vanguards. We are pleased to be working with Birmingham & Solihull NHS Foundation Trust. Our recently completed review of the Trust's Memory Assessment Service has led on to a focused review of the Care Home Liaison Service across Birmingham & Solihull. This work is in progress and will report in the middle of June 2015, look out for further updates.
We are delighted that our evaluation of Tile House, conducted for One Housing Group has been published. Contact Consulting is pleased to confirm a new collaboration with the Centre for Mental Health. We will be leading a review of primary care mental health services in Northamptonshire with colleagues from the CFMH as part of our ongoing partnership. The work, commissioned by NHS Nene CCG will commence in February 2015 and will review the changes, successes and challenges of the implementation of the primary care mental health service and will include engagement with a range of key stakeholders across the health, social care and education system in Northamptonshire.
Contact Consulting has been commissioned to write two DHR reports for neighbouring councils in Berkshire. This follows our recent appointment to work on two DHRs in Leeds We are looking forward to starting on these important pieces of work.
